Donate Miles to the Obama Campaign!
As many of you know, the Democratic National Convention was held in Colorado last week. Although I didn’t leave the Republic of Boulder even one time to enjoy the festivities in Denver (which looked more like a war zone than a fairground, from what I heard), I did make an effort to watch some of the action on the television like everybody else.
I must admit I am feeling a bit of remorse this week for missing out on such a historical event that literally took place in my backyard. Today I started digging around for some ways to get involved, and I came across an interesting opportunity that happens to qualify for a Travelfli blog post!
TravelForChange.org is asking frequent flyers to donate their miles to sponsor volunteers traveling to battleground states for the Presidential election. You can go to the site to read about individual volunteers and then sponsor their particular trip with your miles (or just buy them a ticket out of pocket if you’re feeling really generous).
For instance, Michael Newton-McLaughlin is trying to get from El Cerrito, CA to Denver, CO on Oct 12 to Oct 25. He provides an articulate explanation as to why he is the perfect candidate to campaign for Obama in a swing state and how Obama personally won him over. “…what drives me to him is that he has a vision and while he may not have specifics on how to pursue every piece of it, what he does have is the momentum of change, the charisma of his youth and educated mind and his willingness to figure things out before barging on ahead.”
Three recent Stanford grads built the site with the San Francisco Obama organization. To help them out or learn more about volunteering for the Presedential campaign, contact Alisa.
