No Blackout Dates With Delta SkyMiles
Delta announced today announced a (debatable) improvement in the structure of their SkyMiles frequent flyer program. Members of their program can now book ‘the last seat on the flight’ using up to 60,000 miles. This means no blackout dates, but a potential hike in the miles needed to redeem the seats.
The redemption levels start at 25,00, 40,000 and 60,000 round trip; a change from the current 25,000 and 50,000 miles.
At a first look this seems like a positive move because ideally members will be able to get a better selection of seats, although sometimes it may cost them in miles. However, it remains to be seen how many ‘last seats’ will be available at the 25,000 and 40,000 tiers.
The new changes will be effective September, ‘08.
